Metro Academies Initiative
The Metro Academies Initiative was launched in 2008 by San Francisco State University (SF State) and City College of San Francisco (CCSF) to advance college completion with equity and excellence and provide a true gateway to higher education for low-income and first generation college students. The Initiative currently works with a consortium of nine community colleges and Cal State Universities, and supports Metro Academies throughout the state of California.
The Metro Academies Initiative is a national dissemination center to support Metro programs at colleges and universities with technical assistance and detailed materials. We provide services and technical assistance to Metro sites, including support with:
- Adoption process
- Faculty development
- Student support and recruitment
- Program Administration
Persistence into fifth semester
The Metro Academy of Health at SF State is our most mature program. Metro helps students build momentum because 100% of core classes satisfy graduation requirements for associate's and bachelor's degrees—regardless of whether classes are taken at a community college or university. Metro puts students on a clear, fast track to graduation and success.
